A coming-of-age adventure centered in self-discovery, sisterhood and our love for Mother Earth.

The Maiden Mysteries is a modern day coming of age journey for girls who wish to explore and develop a deep sense of belonging to self, others, and the living world around them.  We consider this to be a "living" curriculum because we work within a flexible framework that is designed to meet each girl where they are while providing tools and resources to help navigate their unique life experience. The framework supports them as the move from the wonder and awe of childhood and early adolescence into the complexity of teen life in this modern era of technology, social isolation and nature deprivation. The curriculum serves as preparation for their Maiden Voyage by actively engaging in authentic group dynamic with the Earth as our foundation.

The Maiden Mysteries is a living curriculum. Preparation for the maiden voyage begins with the Seed Sisters (around 8/9 years of age) and continues with the Moon Flowers then initiation into their teen years as a Star Maiden. The program is sourced through the embodied experience and visionary leadership of the lived path that Shela is walking with her own daughter (now 17!)  and many girls and women in her local community. Together we are learning the nature of reciprocal relationship through presence, place and purpose as we access the space between our inner nature and the outer landscape.

This program was seeded in 2009 in Shela's heart when Kiran was born. It began to take root in relationship to 306 Phoenix House and Roots of Wonder in 2012. It really started taking shape in a homeschool co-op in 2016 as Kiran 4 of her friends, (and mamas) wanted to stay connected and explore the beauty and chaos of growing together.

The curriculum is offered in a seasonal format to serve the maiden on her path. It is designed for girls between 8-13 years of age (other ages may be included). Girls typically begin around 8/9 years old and receive the most benefit when participating for multiple years until completion of the program at 13. Leadership opportunities for the teens are emerging, so follow us to learn more as they are revealed.

We provide intuitive, practical guidance into cyclical ways of being, archetypal patterning, mythological stories and embodied self-awareness. Each girl will be discovering her own blueprint while cultivating her inner compass and creating the map to assist her unique path.

We offer access to a plethora of tools, guidebooks and other valuable resources to help the maiden explore life outside the home. Additionally, we offer support for mothers to keep communication flowing as their daughter enters the teenage years.

We circle together through the Ritual of Play. When comfort and familiarity set in, we learn to deepen our trust through personal reflection and sister mirroring. Together, we learn to meet the moment and respond from within rather than reacting from outside influences.

Seasonal Gateways

We operate on a solar calendar and begin each season near the Equinoxes and Solstices. You may begin the journey at the start of any season. There are typically 5/6 2-hour circles each season. It is important to participate in as many gatherings as possible, to receive the full benefit of the experience together and deepening of relationships.

This journey is best experienced consistently multiple years. You may continue in the Maiden Mysteries for as long as it supports you and your family.
