What I love about the girls' club is that we can share anything. It is a safe area to just talk about our lives. We get to be together a lot and it just really puts me in the world with a new perspective.
What I like about the girls' club is that we get to spend lots of time together. We get to take fun trips in nature like camping and going to the park.
What I like about the girls' club is that we get to just be ourselves. Everyone is accepting and we share about our lives.
The Maiden Mysteries is that place we all wish we had growing up, but it didn’t exist. The sacred place that lives within all of us that typically is cast into the shadow as adolescence unfolds. Our energy goes into connecting with peers and contorting ourselves to meet the expectations & needs of the masses. But this work slows all of that down and gives space to explore the depths and often the simplicity of what these girls need and are navigating. It offers leadership but most importantly sacred space for them to cultivate trusting themselves and one another. Shela is a visionary and has a beautiful passion for guiding girls as they transition from childhood to adolescence and through the Rite of Passage into Womanhood. She is passionate about creating a web of support within the greater community to support these girls as they journey this most beautiful season of life. There is no program like this and to have my daughter be led by this vision and soul is truly a dream come true. This program is a heart song and one that I highly recommend.
I remember well the challenges of growing up, the insecurities, loneliness, and search for good role models and mentors. It makes me so happy that my daughter has the girls club to help her navigate her way. The community, the leadership, the activities all have added so much to our lives. I especially love the mission of connecting to self, others and nature. Of all the activities my daughter does, this group is the most valuable! Thank you Shela for your dedication and love-filled leadership!
"We've been involved in the Maiden Mysteries for 5 years. It's been so nourishing to be in a community in which I feel that I am an actual important piece. I really value being connected to other girls and moms whom I trust, who I know have the girl's highest interest at heart. I have found so much alignment with the families that are a part of this net. I know I can lean on them, and they know they can lean on me. Having other mothers who are going through the stages of my daughter's development alongside me really helped me feel that I wasn't alone.
Shela's guidance when we would go through the tough moments helped me feel that I wasn't losing my footing on parenting, and there was always hope and support. I've learned through our journey together that my daughter thrives so much better in community with other girls who are like us (holistic, connected to nature, interested in life beyond the mundane, reverent of our ancestors). She NEEDS community like this. I've noticed that my daughter ALWAYS wants to go to "girls club," she never once said no.
Shela and the girls have helped her thrive and she feels that she really belongs. I think she's learned who she is in relation to others (no pressure to be the same), that she brings something important to the table and she inherently has value, that her voice matters, how to manage when things don't go as expected, and how to listen to her heart. Her childhood into adolescence wouldn't have been as meaningful, connected, and beautiful without Shela and this community. We will love you forever and be connected always!"
